About Hogwarts School, A Harry Potter RPG.

One of the oldest Harry Potter-centric RPGs out there, Hoggies was formed in June of 2000 by a group of individuals seeking to create an intelligent, fun place to play out their characters. Since then it has grown, gaining momentum to become an active community with dedicated players exploring different plot themes within Hogwarts.

We accept applications three times a year: August, April, and December. After which students are sorted, summer ends, and everyone returns to Hogwarts Castle to begin classes.

Classes

"Professor Birch said that djinn were dangerous, but she said that about everything, so it didn't necessarily mean very much. Of course, most things that Birch summoned in class were dangerous, so it was always best to err on the side of caution."

— Arthur Trimling

Our levels system allows for many variations of classes. Students are allowed to take a maximum of four (4) classes each term, but are not required to take any if they so choose. Lessons are RP-based, and are led by various members of the site.

We have designated four classes as "core" classes, and they are offered each term: Charms, Divination, Transfiguration, and Conjuring/Summoning. Additionally, our electives for the 1970-1971 are:

Care of Magical Creatures

Defense Against the Dark Arts

Muggle Studies

Politics of Magic

Potions

Wizarding Studies

Quidditch & Dueling

When they were allowed to enter the pitch, Penny jumped onto her broom and twirled her bat around her wrist like a majorette. The match picked up quickly, with the Gryffindors making some violent attempts at getting the quaffle.

Looking around, Penny discovered one of the bludgers and rode alongside it. Brushing her wayward hair out of her face, she backhanded the bludger at Loren.

It would be a pity to break his pretty nose, but his wouldn't be the first she'd ruined.

Each house has a Quidditch and a Dueling team. Quidditch teams compete in the tournament, culminating in the annual Quidditch Cup while Dueling teams compete in the Dueling Tournament, culminating in the championships. Students who successfully fulfill their obligations with Quidditch and Dueling are able to earn points for their magical levels.

professors

"Life is dangerous, Miss Wolfe." Georgia responded, as though discussing the weather. "Some are all-knowing, some are all-powerful, some are neither. Use your instincts."

— Professor Georgia Darcy

All professors are written by members of the site, and are treated as actual characters. In addition to their classes, professors have patrols (and patrolling partners), have the option to live at the school, some offer tutoring sessions while others hire teaching assistants.

Additionally, Hogwarts School has a Head Nurse and a Dueling Referee.

plot

"Timothy, there's no quest-" she broke off, lips tightly compressed. Red hair, falling, falling. But it wasn't red hair that could be mistaken for Cassandra, no matter how similar the girls were superficially. It was the look on her face, the cut of her clothing, her very bearing until she went boneless and so unlike herself, so unlike anyone alive - there was no mistaking Esme Faracy for anybody. Esme had presence. And then it was snuffed out.

— Daisy Corbridge

Something odd has been happening around Hogwarts Castle recently. A sense of unrest has permeated the usually tranquil atmosphere, and no one is entirely sure when it began. Could it have been Sebastian Petrocci's impassioned speech the night of the Opening Feast?

"For many of us, this will be our last year at Hogwarts. Our last feast. Our last start of term party. Our last chance to make something of ourselves, to decide who we'll be. Some of us will stay behind. Make no mistake, though; it's only a matter of time. The future will come, whether we want it to or not. It's simply a question of what we'll make of it."

"The world is changing. The time for the old ways, for the bureaucrats and the elitists, has past. We need to be the change we want to see, to make our voices heard, regardless of our backgrounds, or our so-called purity. To ensure that we can use magic freely, as it was meant to be."

"To the future. To our future, and what we make of it."

Suspiciously, the Hufflepuff 7th Year's words were backed by the newly appointed Head Girl, Esme Faracy, and newly returned Slytherin 7th Year, Orion Crow, and the three seemed to get into long discussions with the other revelers throughout the rest of the night.

It could it have had something to do with the meetings held throughout the year - small, at first, with just a few people, more following as term carried on? William Lauria, Slytherin 6, seemed to be a frequent participant - though Marcus Vega, Ravenclaw 6, was never far behind. Dissenters seemed to congregate in the Castle - weekly, perhaps, perhaps more - to discuss further magical restrictions and the increasing complexity of policy.

There was certainly something going on in the real world, too, as various groups met under the cover of nightfall.

A lot of questions remain unanswered. Where has Professor Birch gone? Who are these council members, and what do they have to do with Hogwarts? Who killed Sebastian Petrocci and Esme Faracy - and more importantly, why? Do the break-ins at Gringotts have something to do with the murders at Hogwarts Castle - and if so, who would be targeting students? Why do the Aurors lurking in the hallways make it impossible to get to class on time?

Three things are for certain, though. Damien Andrada killed Orion Crow at the same time Esme Faracy and Sebastian Petrocci were murdered across the Pitch, and things at Hogwarts Castle will not be the same.

our universe

They were standing on what, he had been reliably informed, was a quidditch pitch. It didn't look much like one, consisting of approximately four square miles of absolutely nothing interrupted by seven randomly arranged goal hoops, a large vat of water, a few open-topped platforms for the spectators, and - rather worryingly - a crocodile. But this, after all, was Australian Rules Quidditch, and one had to make allowances.

— Professor Tibble

In addition to Hogwarts, we offer multiple locations for characters to reside. Hogwarts students span from the Valle del Sol school in Calfornia to Beauxbatons to the Gokstad Academy of Norway.

Moreover, our sister site allows for graduates and other adult characters to create their own businesses, whether it be coffeeshops like Alles Saugt or landmarks like the Crystal Clock Tower. Hogsmeade, Diagon, and Knockturn Alleys (affectionately known as HDK) are open for applications year-round and accept characters of all ages.
